So What Exactly Is Meditation?

This is a question that bewilders many and, in fact, defeats many before even trying. The problem with meditation is that it is nearly impossible to explain because, fundamentally, it is the act of letting go of all of your layers and just being here in the present moment with yourself.

By definition it is going to be a different experience for everyone.  So what I find has helped me along my journey is to hear what others say about their meditation experience and use that to help myself delve deeper.

Here’s some inspiration to get you started!

Just watch this moment, without trying to change it at all.
What is happening? What do you feel?
What do you see? What do you hear?
— Jon Kabat-Zinn
Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness,
Which unites your body to your thoughts.
Whenever your mind becomes scattered,
use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again.
— Thich Nhat Hanh
Dwell on the beauty of life.
Watch the stars,
and see yourself running with them.
— Marcus Aurelius
Just be honest with yourself.
That opens the door.
— Vernon Howard
Truth is not to be found outside.
No teacher, no scripture can give it to you.
It is inside you and if you wish to attain it,
seek your own company.
Be with yourself.
— Osho
